Abstract
Family firms undeniably represent a highly distinct organizational form, as economic and financial goals coexist with strictly familial, social, and emotional objectives. Unlike non-family firms, their financial decisions are not driven solely by the criterion of financial value maximization, but also by the pursuit of long-term continuity, the preservation of family control, and financial independence. In this respect, traditional decision-making theories remain limited when applied to the study of family businesses. Therefore, the purpose of this theoretical paper is to highlight the contribution of Multi-Attribute Utility Theory (MAUT) to the analysis of decision-making in family firms. Specifically, the objective is to demonstrate that this theory enables the simultaneous integration of both financial and non-financial dimensions into the evaluation of strategic alternatives.
Keywords: Family firm; multi-attribute utility theory; Financial decisions.
