Abstract

The Moroccan authorities have implemented sectoral strategies to adapt the tourism offer to the new requirements of tourists since the year 2000, following their awareness of the importance of rethinking the tourism industry in the wake of the definition of the concept of sustainable development. The rise of these multiple tourism offers demonstrates the viability of a phenomenon that continues to emerge, with the common denominator of combining environmental preservation and long-term economic success. What is the context for the development of responsible and solidarity-based tourism? What is Morocco's commitment to this new tourism trend? And to what extent have the acts of solidarity of certain associations contributed to the development of the territory? We will review the literature on the transition from mass tourism to sustainable tourism to answer these research questions. We will also use a case study to illustrate the importance of solidarity tourism as a sustainable tourism offer to enhance specific territorial resources and promote territorial development.
