The study is based on the hypothesis that public employment services lost market share in labor market intermediation in Burkina Faso. The survey involved a cohort of 500 workers, all of whom obtained their first job through recruitment channels between 2010 and 2020. The sample is composed of 78.7% men and 21.3% women. The descriptive analysis of the empirical data showed that the ANPE has lost its position as the leader in job placement in the labor market (with only 4.7% market share), leaving room for other recruitment channels such as the networking channel (17.7% market share) and the company's internal channel (12% market share). However, the private placement channel has become the leading recruitment channel with a considerable market share of 35.2%. Furthermore, using a multivariate Probit model, the study finds that individual and labor market variables such as age, field of education, father's professional category, company status and salary level have a significant influence on the probability of getting a first job through the different recruitment channels.Downloads
