Determinants of the adoption of improved Gambiaka Suruni rice seed varieties in the Office du Niger zone

In this article, we analyze the determinants of the adoption of Gambiaka Suruni rice varieties in the Office du Niger zone. In order to conduct this study, a sample of 410 agricultural households was selected in the commune of Nioro and the Logit model was used to determine the factors that influence adoption. The results show that certain socioeconomic and institutional variables such as cultivated area, farming profession, obtaining agricultural credit, household wealth class and taste appreciation have a positive and significant impact on the adoption of improved seed varieties. To increase agricultural productivity in Mali, actors in the agricultural sector must promote innovation through the popularization of improved varieties of rice seeds with the other technological packages that accompany it and agricultural education.
